Question
What kind of encoder can I use with the Gocator?
Answer
Sensor Model | All |
Firmware Version | n/a |
SDK Version | n/a |
Power
All Master Network Controllers can provide 5VDC supply to the encoder. If the encoder requires a different power supply level, you may want to purchase an external power supply for the encoder.
Master 810 and 2410 model Network Controlles also support 12VDC supply to the encoder. Please try to remain in the 5VDC realm as this will be forward compatible. 12VDC is not supported by sensor alone or Master 100 units. In general 12VDC is intended for legacy system support only.
All new systems should use 5VDC encoders.
Signalling
Gocator supports differential and single-ended quadrature encoders that output RS-485 signals only. Differential signalling is preferred as it is supported on sensor directly and via all Master network controllers, but single-ended signalling is only supported by connection to Master 810 and 2410.
Model Specs
Incremental and absolute encoders are supported as long as they have the correct number of channels, power supply, and signalling type and level.
For further details, please reference the sensor user manual under the Specifications section.

Can I just confirm RS-485 is the only supported interface? This would mean only absolute encoders are supported. Most, if not all incremental encoders us RS-422 as far as I am aware.
Thanks.
