Question
How should my network card be set up for use with an Ethernet-based MikroCAD scanner?
Answer
Before using an Ethernet-based MikroCAD scanner, follow the procedure in the next section. If you have problems connecting to the scanner, follow the procedure under "Disabling Other Network Connections" below.
Setting Up the Network Card
To set up the network card, do the following:
- On the Windows taskbar, right-click the network icon ( or ) and click Open Network and Sharing Center in the context menu.
If you can't see the icon, it may be hidden. Click on the Show hidden icons icon () to display a list of hidden icons.
- Click Change Adapter Settings.
- Double-click the network card that you will use to connect to the scanner.
- Select Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4) in the list and click Properties.
- In the General tab, make sure Obtain an IP address automatically is selected.
When Obtain an IP address automatically is selected, Windows attempts to connect to a DHCP server for 60 seconds. If the computer is connected directly to a scanner, however, you can avoid this delay by instead selecting Use the following IP address and using the following settings:
- IP address: An address between 169.254.1.0 and 169.254.254.255
- Subnet mask: 255.255.0.0
You can leave the Default gateway setting empty.
- In the Alternate Configuration tab, make sure Automatic private IP address is selected, and then click OK.
- Click Close in the Local Area Connection Properties dialog.
Disabling Other Network Connections
In some situations, other network connections, for example wireless connections, may prevent you from connecting to the scanner.
If this happens, do the following:
- On the Windows taskbar, right-click the network icon () and click Open Network and Sharing Center in the context menu.
If you can't see the icon, it may be hidden. Click on the Show hidden icons icon () to display a list of hidden icons. - Click Change Adapter Settings.
- Right-click on any adapters you do not need to use and choose Disable for each one.
