Gocator encoder Z signal needed for encoder triggered operation

Question

Is the Gocator encoder Z signal needed for encoder-triggered operation?

Answer

The Z (index) signal is triggered once every revolution of the encoder. This signal is not needed for normal encoder operation. In some particular surface generation such as Rotational. In this case, regardless of the radial position the sensor is started at, the generated surface always starts at the position of the index pulse. The signal state is encoded in the result message which can be provided using the industrial and Gocator protocols using the Ethernet communication.
