Question
What’s the migration path to take the old calibrations to the new v3.2 Scanners schema?
Answer
There is no way to upconvert it through the software. However, if it is essential for you to keep the same calibration, here is a workaround:
- Back up your Calibrations folder. This is usually in C:\Users\<USERNAME>\Documents\FlexScan3D\Calibrations.
- In FlexScan3D 3.2, navigate to the Scanners tab, click the Add button, then select Create new HDI Advance...
- Click OK.
- Select the cameras, projector, etc, and then calibrate the system. Don't worry about the quality. We are going to overwrite this calibration anyway.
- Once you have calibrated your first scanner, you can add the second scanner by clicking Add and following the same steps.
Once this is done:
Navigate to your old Calibrations folder (the one you backed up in your first step). Go into the calibration folder for the desired calibration. Assuming it's a multiscanner, there should be two folders, one for each scanner. This should be in a folder like this:
C:\Users\<USERNAME>\Documents\FlexScan3D\Scanners. You will need to determine which scanner is which. To do this, compare scannerConfig.xml in the old calibration folder to scannerInfo.xml in the new calibration folder (these can be viewed in any text editor).
Look for something like this:
Old format: <dev0 id=""PTGrey_12292436"" alias=""PTGrey_12292436"" />
New format: <CameraID>PTGrey::12292436</CameraID>
Once you have determined which scanner is which, copy each calib.xml file from the old calibrations (in the Calib subfolder) to the new corresponding scanner folder (again, in the Calib subfolder), overwriting the calib.xml files you just created.
You should now be able to scan and get exactly the same results.
